What To Do With Your Used Newborn Furniture

by Chris Houston

It's not easy to decide what to do with used newborn furniture for most parents. Our decision is easy since we are hoping to have a second child in the near future, so we have put the items like the car seat, playpen, crib and other newborn items our first son has outgrown in the garage.

Used newborn furniture is usually large and needs to be stored away. If you are putting your baby furniture in a place that collects dust then I recommend wrapping it up with a plastic cover so the bugs and dust stays away. You might want to go ahead and wrap it anyway so it is damaged less and stays in tip top shape. If you are not planning to keep it, here are a few ideas on what to do with it.

Check around with friends if you are feeling charitable. Your used newborn furniture could be a huge gift to someone who is trying to bare the burden of high costs during this tough economic time. Used newborn furniture is usually...well... not that used. Most people use an item for one year or at the most two before the baby outgrows it. The same is true with clothing. The value in second-hand baby furniture is perhaps only as high as people place it in their own minds. You can subtly ask friends who are expecting a question like, "we've got this used newborn furniture that we have to store away, do you want to come take a look?". This way you aren't putting pressure on another couple to take the items.

Another idea is to take the items to your local Goodwill. There are families in need of items like this all time and it could help some little child who would normally not have quality newborn furniture. If you aren't going to use it and your friends don't need it then this is always a feel good thing to do. It's also tax deductible so make sure you get a receipt and estimate what your total charitable gift is.You can find a goodwill near you at http://locator.goodwill.org/.

In this day and age people are also selling the items on EBAY. EBAY allows parents to sell used newborn furniture items and gain money to purchase additional new toddler items. Once a kid gets old enough to be too big for his or her crib then you'll have a decision to make. Here's a link to their selling page.

Keep it or get rid of it?

It's hard to imagine spending anywhere from $100 to sometimes over $1000 for a crib and then getting only 1-2 years of use from it before your toddler moves into a bed. The transition is stressful enough without having to worry about where you are going to put it and let the dust pile up.

This is now the day and age of Newborn Furniture sales on EBAY. It's not hard to find used or new items in abundance on EBAY when searching for baby furniture. In fact, it's become the number one way parents find furnishings for their baby's room.

You can also try to have a yard/baby sale. If you can place an ad and some signs then you have a shot to get great money and cash in hand with a baby sale. You can also use the event to get rid of other non-baby related items. Cribs, playpens and other used newborn furniture can bring a good amount of cash from those who visit baby sales. Make sure on your ad or sign that you mention baby items: Used Newborn Furniture For SALE.

You can also place an ad in the local classifieds. Since you might not want to tear down items like a crib (which isn't an easy take at all) then you might try this angle. It's often effective and might help you get more money to put toward newer toddler items.
